Wake County is home to one of the busiest court systems in North Carolina. With District Court handling thousands of traffic, criminal, and civil cases every month alongside a full Superior Court docket, hearings are scheduled and rescheduled constantly. If you have a court date in Wake County, here is how to find it and make sure you are always looking at the most current information.

How to Find Your Wake County Court Date

Wake County court dates are part of the NC eCourts public portal, which means you can look them up for free without creating an account.

Go to nccourts.gov/court-dates and click Search. On the NC eCourts Portal, select Smart Search. In the search field, enter your name in this exact format:

Last, First — for example: Doe, John

There is one comma after your last name and only a space between your first and middle name if applicable. The format matters. Entering your name as “John Doe” will return no results even if your case is active.

Complete the reCAPTCHA and click Submit. Your results will show any upcoming hearings, your assigned courthouse, and your case number. Note your case number before leaving the page. You will need it to set up monitoring.

What Court Will My Case Be In?

Wake County has both District Court and Superior Court, and they handle different types of cases.

District Court covers traffic violations, misdemeanors, small claims, and most family law matters. Superior Court handles felonies and civil cases involving larger amounts. Your paperwork will indicate which court your case is assigned to, and the eCourts portal results will also show this when you search.

Both courts operate out of the Wake County Justice Center at 301 S. McDowell Street in Raleigh.

Why Wake County Court Dates Change Frequently

Wake County is one of the most active court jurisdictions in NC. High case volume means continuances are common. A date that appears on the portal today may shift by days or weeks before your actual hearing. This is one of the main reasons people miss court dates in Wake County without intending to. They looked up their date weeks ago and assumed nothing changed.

Rather than checking manually every few days, you can let CourtDelta watch your case for you. Enter your Wake County case number, and CourtDelta will send you an email or text the moment anything changes, including a new hearing date, a status update, or a scheduling change.

It is free for individuals and takes under two minutes to set up.
