AI Is Changing How People Search for Court Information. We’re Building for What’s Next.
Not long ago, finding court information meant opening a browser, searching Google, clicking through several websites, and hoping you landed on the right page. Today, more people are starting with AI. Whether it’s ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI assistant, people are getting comfortable asking questions in plain English and expecting a direct answer.
That shift is changing how we think about Court Delta.
The challenge is that AI assistants don’t actually know what’s happening in the court system today. Court dates change. Hearings are added. New cases are filed every hour. A language model can only answer questions based on what it already knows unless it has a secure way to retrieve current information from a trusted source.
Over the past several months, we’ve been building exactly that.
Introducing Court Delta’s MCP Server
We’re excited to share that Court Delta will soon support MCP, or Model Context Protocol. While the name may not be familiar today, it’s quickly becoming the standard for connecting AI assistants with live information.
Instead of relying entirely on training data, compatible AI assistants can securely retrieve current information directly from platforms like Court Delta. We believe this is where AI is headed, and we want Court Delta to be ready.
For most people, the technology isn’t the interesting part. The experience is. Instead of navigating menus, remembering case numbers, or jumping between multiple websites, you’ll simply be able to ask a question naturally and let your AI assistant retrieve the information from Court Delta.
Starting With Attorneys
We’ll initially launch our MCP server through a private beta with a small group of attorneys and legal professionals.
Law firms spend a tremendous amount of time looking up court cases, checking hearing schedules, answering routine client questions, and gathering information that should be available in seconds. AI has the potential to streamline much of that work, but only if it has access to reliable, up-to-date information.
During the beta, participating attorneys will be able to use compatible AI assistants to retrieve information from the Court Delta platform, including:
- Looking up court cases by case number
- Searching for court cases by a person’s name
- Reviewing upcoming hearings and court dates
- Checking whether a traffic citation requires a court appearance
- Estimating DMV and insurance points for traffic offenses
- Exploring potential expunction eligibility
- Finding courthouse addresses, hours, parking information, and contact details
We’ll continue expanding these capabilities as we gather feedback from beta participants.
A Platform for More Than Attorneys
Although we’re beginning with legal professionals, that’s not where we see this ending.
The same technology has the potential to help journalists researching public court records, developers building legal applications, researchers looking for public court information, and everyday North Carolinians trying to understand what comes next in their own case.
Everyone starts with the same thing: a question.
Our goal is to make getting an answer as simple as asking it.
Looking Ahead
We’ve always believed that public court information should be easier to access and easier to understand. AI doesn’t change that mission. It simply creates a better way to deliver on it.
We’re putting the finishing touches on our MCP integration now and look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks, including developer documentation, beta opportunities, and additional capabilities.
Search is evolving. More and more, people expect information to come through conversation instead of navigation. We think court information should evolve with it, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.
If you’re an attorney interested in participating in the private beta, or a developer building AI-powered legal tools, we’d love to hear from you.
